Hoping for a Kindergarten Spot?
All rising Kindergarteners whose families have submitted completed applications will come for a required small group visit in February to meet our Kindergarten teaching team. More details about scheduling these visits will be provided later this winter. Because our lead Kindergarten teacher periodically visits our preschool program, current Shepherds do not need to schedule this visit.
Shadow Program
Once a completed application has been submitted to Saint Rita Catholic School, families may schedule a day for their elementary or middle school child to spend at Saint Rita, shadowing their possible future class. This will give them a glimpse of life as a Saint Rita student, and give us a chance to get to know them!
Scheduling: To schedule a shadow visit after you have submitted your application, contact Admissions Director Josephine Cunningham at (703) 548-1888 ext. 32 or jcunningham@saintrita-school.org. Schedule your visit as soon as you have completed your application for best availability, as there are a limited number of spots available each day.
Days: Shadow days are Tuesdays and Thursdays in January and February
The Shadow Day: Please plan to drop off your child(ren) between 7:50 and 8 am on the shadow day. Please park in the municipal lot adjacent to our own parking lot (accessible off Mt. Vernon Avenue, across from the AutoZone). Walk your child(ren) around the safety cones cordoning off our carline drop-off area and introduce them to our priests and administrators out there greeting the children. One of us will walk you into the main office and help you get the student(s) signed in and ready for the day. Then leave them in our charge for the day and return for them at 2 pm!
Good to Know: Our students wear a formal uniform, so please dress them in a similar fashion. Khaki-style pants for boys with a button down shirt and belt would be great, while girls could wear a knee-length skirt and top or dress (or khaki-style pants are permitted for young ladies too!). Please make sure they have warm jackets, hats, and mittens, as we play outside twice a day in all kinds of weather! If it will be a P.E. day, we will let you know so you can dress them in more activewear. They will also need a morning snack, a lunch, and a water bottle.
Assessment: At some point in the day, our resource team will conduct a short assessment of their current reading and math ability so we can learn more about their current abilities and areas for growth. This is not meant to be stressful or high-stakes, just a current snapshot of how they are doing academically.
